Gutters for Grant Park’s Victorian homes
Grant Park takes its name from the park at its center, which began in 1883 when Lemuel P. Grant gave the city 100 acres; the city added 44 more in 1890, and today the park covers 131 acres with Zoo Atlanta inside it. Oakland Cemetery, established in 1850, sits within the historic district, and Lake Abana in the park was built to handle storm-water runoff. The Grant Park Historic District was listed on the National Register in 1979. Large two-story houses face the park, modified Queen Anne homes line the surrounding streets, and one-story Victorian cottages and Craftsman bungalows fill in to the east. Together with Inman Park, Grant Park holds the largest remaining area of Victorian architecture in Atlanta.
Owner Matthew Prewett sends crews in from Thornton Road in Lithia Springs. Grant Park houses run from big Victorians with tall walls and porches to small cottages and bungalows, and many have been restored with care. Older homes bring tired fascia, porch roofs and decorative trim; the tall ones bring long drops and heavy flow at the corners. On any given block we might flush a clogged cottage gutter, reseal a corner, replace rotted fascia, form a new seamless run from the truck and top it with BroGuard fine metal mesh. On the tall Victorians facing the park, 6-inch gutters and a second downspout keep the water in the trough. Every estimate is free and written.
Atlanta averages about 50.4 inches of rain a year (NOAA), with winter and summer the wettest stretches. Grant Park streets carry a lot of old shade trees, so oak leaves pile into gutters each fall and spring pollen turns the mix into sludge. On an older house, a downspout that empties beside the wall often sends water toward the crawlspace or the foundation. Our maintenance program sends a crew once the leaves are down and again when pollen season ends, which keeps Grant Park outlets open into summer.

Porch roofs often drain into a short gutter with one small outlet, and on a big Victorian that gutter also takes water from the main roof above. We check the size of the run and the outlet, add a second downspout or a larger one where it helps, and make sure the water lands well clear of the porch steps and foundation.
Twice a year suits most homes: late fall, once the leaves are down, and late spring, once the pollen is gone. Houses under pines or a big oak may need a third pass. BroGuard mesh cuts most of that work, and the maintenance program puts our crew on your calendar.
Yes. We work on Victorians, cottages and Craftsman bungalows across the Grant Park Historic District and on the newer homes built among them. We match the gutter size and color to the house and keep the work neat around older trim. Every estimate is free and written.
Yes. A new gutter is only as solid as the board it hangs on. On older homes the fascia behind the gutter is often soft from years of overflow. We replace the bad sections first, then hang the seamless gutter, so the new system holds its pitch and stays put.
Grant Park is in ZIP code 30312, and we cover the whole neighborhood. Quotes cost nothing and come in writing; the crew heads over from our Lithia Springs base on Thornton Road.
