Gutters for Buckhead’s estates, hills and older brick streets

Buckhead is the north end of Atlanta, a district of big lots and heavy tree canopy that joined the city in 1952. Peachtree Road runs up the middle and West Paces Ferry Road cuts west through Tuxedo Park, where large homes sit back on wooded, rolling lots. Closer in, Peachtree Heights and Garden Hills fill the streets on either side of Peachtree with older brick and frame homes under tall oaks. To the north, Chastain Park anchors a mix of ranches, older houses and newer rebuilds, and Nancy Creek and Peachtree Creek wind through the low ground, so a lot of Buckhead lots slope hard toward a ravine.

The Brothers That Just Do Gutters Buckhead and West Atlanta is owned by Matthew Prewett, and our crews work out of Thornton Road in Lithia Springs and are on Buckhead streets every week. We clean and flush gutters, repair leaking seams and loose hangers, form new runs on site, replace soft fascia and install BroGuard fine metal mesh. For estate homes with long, steep roof planes, 6-inch gutters often handle an Atlanta downpour better than the originals did. Every estimate is free and written.

Atlanta averages about 50.4 inches of rain a year, and the wettest stretches come in winter, with long soaking rains, and in summer, with short, heavy afternoon thunderstorms. Under Buckhead’s canopy, oak leaves, pine straw and sweetgum balls settle into the trough through fall, spring pollen turns it to sludge, and runoff off a sloped lot carries red clay grit right along with it. One hard storm tries to move all of it at once. Our maintenance program keeps that from happening, and fall, with the oaks letting go, is the time to start.

Buckhead Gutter Questions, Answered

How often should gutters be cleaned in Buckhead?

Most Buckhead homes need two cleanings a year: one after the fall leaf drop, before the winter rains, and one in late spring after the oak catkins and pine pollen come down. Homes under heavy oak and pine canopy, which covers a lot of Tuxedo Park, Peachtree Heights and the streets around Chastain Park, often do better on a maintenance plan or with BroGuard.

My Buckhead house has a big, steep roof. Are standard gutters enough?

Often not. A large, steep roof sends a lot of water to the gutter fast, and in an Atlanta summer thunderstorm a 5-inch trough can overflow at the front lip. We measure roof area and pitch, and on estate rooflines a 6-inch or 7-inch seamless gutter with larger downspouts usually carries the storm. Runs over 40 feet get a second downspout.

Do older Garden Hills and Peachtree Heights homes need fascia work first?

Many do. Older brick and frame homes often have fascia boards that have been painted and patched for decades, and a gutter is only as solid as the wood behind it. We check the fascia first and replace any soft boards, then form seamless runs on site to the exact length of each eave and hang them into solid wood.

My Buckhead lot slopes toward a creek. Where should the downspouts go?

Away from the house, on a planned path. On sloped lots near Nancy Creek or Peachtree Creek, roof water dumped at the foundation can wash out beds, carry red clay across walks and soak the low side of the house. We extend downspouts or tie them into underground drainage so the water leaves the house and goes where the lot can take it.

Do you work near Chastain Park and West Paces Ferry Road?

Yes. Our crews work all over Buckhead, from Tuxedo Park and West Paces Ferry Road to Peachtree Heights, Garden Hills and the streets around Chastain Park. Wherever you are, the estimate is free and written, and the same local team out of Lithia Springs handles the job from the first visit to the final flush test.
