Why the phone keeps ringing

Why Buckhead and the west side keep a gutter crew on the road

Spend a week on Thornton Road and you will pass rooflines our crews have hung. Here is why that list keeps getting longer.

Metro Atlanta gets about 50 inches of rain in a normal year, and it does not hand it out evenly. Winter brings long, soaking rains, and summer brings afternoon thunderstorms that dump water faster than a half-full trough can move it. In between, the trees keep feeding the gutters: pine straw, oak leaves, sweetgum balls and a thick coat of spring pollen, all mixed with red clay grit washed off the roof.

Right now the leaves are coming down and the winter rains are close behind, so homeowners from Buckhead to Douglasville want their gutters cleared out, patched and draining before then. Hilly lots and red clay raise the stakes. Water that misses the downspout cuts channels through the yard, stains the brick and sits at the foundation, and nobody wants that. Heavy rain plus that much tree cover is why the calls keep coming into our shop in Lithia Springs, in every season.

The houses add variety too. Intown has 1920s bungalows in Virginia-Highland, Inman Park and Grant Park, Buckhead has big homes with tall rooflines, and Smyrna and Marietta are full of newer two-story builds.

The houses on your schedule

Every crew leaves Thornton Road in Lithia Springs and works homes across Buckhead, Sandy Springs, Brookhaven and Vinings, intown through Midtown, West Midtown and East Atlanta, out to Smyrna, Marietta, Kennesaw and Acworth, west through Mableton, Austell, Douglasville, Powder Springs, Dallas and Hiram, and south to Fairburn, Fayetteville, Peachtree City and Newnan. Each kind of house has its own lessons about moving water.

  • Big Buckhead and Sandy Springs homes with tall rooflines and a lot of gutter to hang.
  • 1920s bungalows in Virginia-Highland, Inman Park and Grant Park under old hardwoods.
  • Newer two-story builds in Smyrna, Marietta and Kennesaw.
  • 1960s ranch homes where a few downspouts carry the whole roof.
  • Hilly lots with heavy runoff and nowhere for it to go.
  • Homes under pines and oaks, where straw and leaves land in the trough all year.

Two openings

Crew Member or Solutionist: how the two jobs compare

The Buckhead and West Atlanta team is hiring for two jobs right now. Here is what each one involves, based on what our careers page says and nothing more.

Crew Members do the hands-on work that keeps water off Atlanta siding and out of the red clay. You run seamless gutters off a coil on the truck, cut each piece to the length of the wall and hang it with a steady fall toward the downspout. That same crew takes on repairs, cleanings, BroGuard gutter guards, fascia and drainage work. Solutionists are the sales side, minus the pushy part. You meet homeowners who asked us out, look the roofline over, work out what the house needs and put an honest quote in writing.

Crew MemberRun seamless gutters on the truck, hang and pitch them, and take on repairs, cleanings, BroGuard guards, fascia and drainage.Hours and pay are not published on our careers page. Ask about both, plus anything else, when you call (770) 213-1621.Gutter, roofing or construction experience helps. Hard workers who want to learn a trade are invited to apply too.

Who fits this team

A resume helps, but how you work counts for more. The people who stick with this team usually share a few traits.

  • You are where you said you would be, when you said it.
  • You notice when a run is off by a hair, and you fix it.
  • Ladders and tools do not bother you, or you are ready to learn.
  • You can explain a problem to a homeowner in plain words.
  • You tell the truth, even if the job gets smaller.
  • You want a trade you can build on for years.

What you can leave at home

  • A polished resume. It is optional on our application.
  • Your own work truck. Crews roll out in ours, and we bring the training.
  • Years in gutters. Roofing, construction or a real will to learn all count.
  • A sales pitch. Solutionists explain what they see in plain language.
  • A sales background for the Solutionist job. It helps, but honesty matters more.
  • An account login. The application takes about three minutes, no account needed.

Out on the job

One install day with the Buckhead and West Atlanta crew, shop to driveway

Here is how a normal install day goes, from the shop in Lithia Springs to the last swept driveway of the afternoon.

  1. Leave the shop.Go over the day’s addresses, load the box truck on Thornton Road and head for the first house, maybe in Smyrna, maybe in Buckhead.
  2. Size up the roof.A tall Buckhead roofline and a Grant Park bungalow shed water very differently. You check the fascia, the slope of the yard and where the water should end up.
  3. Run the gutter on site. The machine on the truck turns a coil into one continuous piece cut to the wall, so there is no joint mid-run to fail later.
  4. Hang and pitch it.Set a steady fall toward each outlet, seal the corners and fasten the downspouts so a summer downpour has a clear path out.
  5. Run water through it.Nobody calls a job finished until water has gone through the system and out the downspouts the right way.
  6. Sweep up and move on.Show the homeowner the work, pick up every cut-off and blow off the driveway, then roll to the next stop.

Coming from roofing or handyman work? You are halfway there

If you have worked on roofs or done exterior repairs, you already know the tough parts of this job: working up high, reading a roofline and figuring out where water wants to run. What changes is focus. Instead of bouncing between trades, you learn one system until you can do it right every single time.

Not every call is a fresh install. One longtime customer described crews finding “Limbs falling breaking brackets, or pulling the gutter away from the building.” Repairs, cleanings, underground drainage and fascia work are all part of what you learn.

Growing here

How you grow: learn the Brothers system and keep building

Our careers page keeps the fine print short, so here is what it does promise and what to ask us about.

Every new hire trains on the Brothers system, the brand’s own method for forming, hanging and finishing gutters, in use since 1999. The careers page does not spell out pay steps or titles beyond the two openings, so if you want to know what moving up looks like, ask when you call. Someone reads every application, and you will get a straight answer.

Starting pointWhat you bringWhat the job gives you
Hard worker ready to learn a tradeReliability and a willingness to climbTraining on the Brothers system, on the job, beside a local crew.
Roofer, builder or gutter handHands-on time on roofs, exterior repairs or guttersOne system to master and a crew that knows these neighborhoods.
SolutionistPeople skills, plus sales or trades experience if you have itSet appointments with homeowners who asked for a quote. Ask us about pay and hours when you call.

Skills you will pick up

Everyone learns the Brothers system. Crew Members learn to measure, form and hang 5, 6 and 7 inch seamless gutters, set the pitch, place downspouts and handle repairs, fascia boards, guards and drainage. Solutionists learn to read a roofline, spot what is actually wrong and write a quote a homeowner can believe.

The work sticks around. Years from now you will point at rooflines from Marietta to Buckhead and say you hung that. Questions about training or what comes next? Call (770) 213-1621 and ask.

Who you would work for

How this team treats homeowners and the crew

This is a local outfit, and homeowners already mention the owner by name in their reviews.

Matthew Prewett owns The Brothers That Just Do Gutters Buckhead and West Atlanta, and the crews work out of Thornton Road in Lithia Springs. The business is A+ rated by the BBB, and customers bring him up on their own, like the one who wrote “Matthew is a complete professional.” See who is behind the trucks on our About page.

Backing the local shop is The Brothers That Just Do Gutters, the national brand Ken and Ryan Parsons started in 1999. Gutters are all it has ever done, and the people who visit homes are called Solutionists instead of salespeople. You show up with a name homeowners can look up and a system that has been proven for decades.

How that shows up on a job

  • Estimates are free and in writing, and a repair gets quoted when a repair will do.
  • Seamless gutters formed on site.
  • One local phone number that rings our team in Lithia Springs.
  • Every Google review is published, the good and the bad.
  • Yards and driveways get cleaned before the truck leaves.
  • Someone actually reads every job application.

What customers say

We sit at 4.9 stars on 258 Google reviews, and every one is published. Read a few and you will meet your future coworkers. One customer wrote, “The team (Adam D., Daveion B., and Mark M.) were professional and worked really hard on installing my new gutters.” Another shared that “John told me that his boss says to leave the home better than you found it.” That is the bar on this team.
